Under the guise of life-saving medicines, routine medicines and vitamins have been imported from India. The Prime Minister has directed Shehzad Akbar to investigate. According to media reports, a meeting of the federal cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan revealed the import of medicines when a summary of import of 429 more medicines from India was presented.
The summary recommended importing more drugs, including life-saving and multivitamin drugs. During the meeting, when questions were raised on the import of routine medicines and vitamins from India, Special Assistant Zafar Mirza and Health Secretary were left speechless.
They were asked what are the medicines imported from India? Are all medicines life-saving? To which Zafar Mirza said that preparation of the list is not in my knowledge.

It should be noted that when trade sanctions were imposed on India in September 2019, the import of medicines was not banned but later the cabinet meeting also banned the import of life-saving medicines. Dr. Zafar Mirza said that the government would launch a campaign to make the people aware about the rules and regulations for prevention of corona virus. Fortunately, the number of corona cases and deaths in Pakistan is less than other countries in the world.
In an interview, he appealed to the people to show maturity and responsibility by adhering to the rules and regulations and social distance while easing the lockdown in the country. He appreciated the role of religious scholars in informing the public about the limited number of people visiting mosques during the holy month of Ramadan.
