Whether it is the Afghan government or the Taliban, the United States has come under suspicion
After fierce fighting and lengthy negotiations, the United States is now in doubt. US Secretary of Defense Mark Upser says neither the Afghan government nor the Taliban are implementing the Afghan peace agreement
According to Reuters, after lengthy negotiations, the February 29 Afghan peace agreement stipulated that the Taliban would reduce attacks against domestic and foreign forces, but this has increased since the agreement.
Mark Upser said that not only the Taliban but also the Afghan government was not fulfilling its promises. He said the Afghan government and the Taliban should work together to ensure the agreement is implemented.
Implementation of the Afghan peace agreement has also been hampered by the political situation in Afghanistan, where both Abdullah Abdullah and Ashraf Ghani have further weakened the center by announcing their respective governments. The biggest beneficiaries of this political deadlock have been the Taliban, who have carried out 4,500 attacks in 45 days. However, these attacks are limited to Afghan government forces, while foreign forces are not being targeted as per the agreement.
The United States is expected to withdraw 8,600 troops from Afghanistan this summer, and the withdrawal process is under way.
Western and Afghan analysts monitoring the situation in Afghanistan say the escalating attacks show that the Taliban are unwilling to reduce tensions under an agreement reached in February this year.
On the other hand, the corona virus poses a threat to Afghanistan as well as to the rest of the world, where the global epidemic is spreading rapidly.
The number of corona virus cases in Afghanistan so far is 3,392 and 104 people have died and these cases have been reported in all major provinces.
