China has appealed for support from the World Health Organization, saying the United States has a habit of backing down

China's foreign ministry has criticized the United States for severing ties with the World Health Organization (WHO) and called on the international community to increase co-operation with the agency.

The State Department said Monday that the United States has "demonstrated the politics and one-sidedness of power."

The State Department also said that "the United States has a habit of retreating."

President Trump said on Friday that the United States was severing ties with the World Health Organization.

He accused the World Health Organization of failing to hold Beijing accountable for the spread of the corona virus.

"China has complete control over the World Health Organization," he said.

WHO Director-General Dr. Tedrosadnom has defended the agency's independence, promising to reconsider its response to the epidemic.

The European Union has called on the Trump administration to reconsider its decision, warning that it could hamper global efforts to block Covid 19.
