US: President Donald Trump signs order to reduce legal protections for social media companies

US President Donald Trump has used his prerogative to sign an executive order to limit the legal protections afforded to social media platforms in the United States.

Following the president's approval of the executive order, social media watchdogs in the United States will be able to take legal action against online platforms, including Facebook and Twitter, for blocking or editing users' content.

Signing the order, President Trump accused social media platforms of having unlimited powers.

It is hoped that the order will soon be challenged on legal platforms. The draft executive order states that social media networks are involved in selective censorship.

The scandal erupted on Wednesday when the social networking site Twitter labeled two of President Trump's tweets on the postal ballot a fact check.

President Trump called Twitter's move a violation of freedom of expression and said that Twitter was trying to interfere in the 2020 US presidential election.
