The U.S. Department of Labor announced last week that another 2.1 million people had applied for unemployment benefits.
More than 40 million people have lost their jobs since mid-March, about a quarter of the US workforce.
Unemployment rose to about 15 percent last month, the highest level since the Great Depression.
The latest figures come at a time when all 50 states are easing some of the restrictions imposed by Code 19 and businesses across the country are slowly opening up.
Meanwhile, the death toll in the country has risen to more than 100,000, the highest in the world
