Police personnel in Pakistan are more affected than medical personnel

Lockdown in Pakistan has been eased and shops and markets will remain open for four days now, but the number of patients coming in on a daily basis is not declining.
The two government departments are the most active and in the field to control the Corona epidemic. One is the health department, which is directly involved in caring for patients, while the other is the police department, which is active in enforcing government policy to keep the number of victims to a minimum.

It has collected data from across Pakistan on the personnel of these two departments who are on duty day and night directly for Corona patients. According to these figures, police officers are the most affected by the virus, more than any other government department, even if it is a health department staff.
Sohail Sukhera, DIG Operation Punjab, the

province in Pakistan in terms of population, told  that 269 police personnel in the province have been affected by Corona so far.
The DIG said that samples have been taken of all the police personnel who had somehow approached the patients of Corona or remained stationed outside the building where such patients are kept.
More than four and a half thousand samples have been sent to the laboratories and at present the results of two hundred and eleven of them have been positive. The results of the rest are yet to come.
He said that these officers were the ones whose duty was reserved for Corona. Most personnel were stationed outside quarantine centers, hospitals and sealed areas affected by Corona.


On the other hand, according to the data released by the Punjab Health Department on medical personnel, 180 medical personnel have been affected by Corona, including doctors and nursing staff.
According to a police spokesman in Sindh, the second largest province in terms of population, about 151 officers and youths have been infected with the corona virus so far, with 36 new cases reported among police personnel in the last three days.
The number of officers and men undergoing treatment is 118, while 29 officers and men have recovered and gone home.
According to the Sindh Health Department, the number of doctors infected with the virus in the province is 90, while more than 18 paramedical staff have been diagnosed with the virus.

According to a report released by the World Health Organization, the rate of medical personnel infected with the corona virus in Pakistan is 2.5% of the total number, which is much higher than in Western countries.
However, the situation in Balochistan is slightly different. According to the Balochistan Health Department, 143 healthcare providers have contracted the corona virus, while the number of infected police personnel in the province is 45, but no deaths have been reported. Two of the affected personnel are from Pishin and Sibi while the others are from Quetta.
According to DIG Operation Punjab, Sohail Sukhera, one of the major reasons for the police personnel to be affected is that the police personnel are on duty outside the quarantine centers as well as outside the hospitals. Similarly, even after sealing the areas where most cases have come to light, the police are deployed in the area.

In response to a question whether the reason for the high number of cases among the police could not be due to lack of precautionary measures? DIG Sohail Sukhera said that the situation created by Corona was new to everyone.
We took all the precautionary measures that were possible. The victims were Bhorona, a policeman who was fully equipped. And there were also victims who continued to bury the dead. However, all procedures were followed in accordance with WHO guidelines.
According to a spokesman for the Sindh Police Department, the reason for the high number of cases in the police was that more officers were on duty in Corona. As the new situation unfolds, precautions are being further improved, he said. More or less the Balochistan Police Department says the same thing.
