Another heatwave is expected in Karachi

The Meteorological Department has forecast another heatwave in Karachi in the coming days.

In this regard, the Meteorological Department on Friday issued a heatwave alert and said that another wave of heatwave is likely to hit Karachi from May 17 to 22.

The Meteorological Department informed the Mayor of Karachi, Governor, Secretary Aviation Division and the media through the notification.

Meanwhile, Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfraz told Dawn that the city's temperature could reach 40 to 42 degrees Celsius during the day.

The alert added that the wind would blow from northwest / west to southeast in the evening.

The chief meteorologist said it would be a moderate heatwave.

It may be recalled that the first heatwave of the year 2020 was felt in Karachi from May 5 to 8.

It may be recalled that the worst heatwave in Pakistan for more than 50 years was felt in Karachi in 2015.

On June 19 of the same year, the city of Quaid witnessed a severe heat wave that lasted for 5 days, killing more than 1,200 people and injuring 40,000.

Symptoms and causes of heatwave
It should be noted that these causes can cause heatwave and the affected person may have these symptoms.

Dehydration
Hot and dry weather
Hard work or exercise in hot weather
Walking too much in direct sunlight
Work outdoors or work outdoors
To faint
Stopping sweating from the body
Excessive heart rate
Red, hot and dry skin

What to do if affected by heatwave?
First call an ambulance or take the victim to the hospital yourself (delay in medical assistance can be fatal), move the patient to a shady place while waiting for the ambulance.

Lay the patient on the floor and place his feet on a high object (to increase blood flow to the heart).

If the patient's clothes are tight, loosen them.

Put cold bandages on the patient's body or spray cold water.

Turn the pedestal fan towards the patient, but if there is no electricity, blow the patient with anything.

Also, keep a water bottle with you when you go out of the house and use water immediately if you feel unwell.

It may be recalled that five years ago in 2015, the worst heat wave of 50 years hit Pakistan, as a result of which hundreds of people were killed in Karachi.
